Job description
What we do
The open secret within the marketing and advertising industry is that itโs built on exploiting our data. Like, when you mention something to a friend and the next thing you know, you are being bombarded with adverts for it. Companies track everything we do online to follow our movement and understand our behavior. They collect this information, aggregate it, and sell it.
People have various complicated options to stop it from happening, but we believe they should have a better choice โ to join the game and earn from it themselves! Monetha gives people an opportunity to be rewarded for their data. In return for sharing their data with companies, people earn points. And they can redeem these points for products, vouchers, or crypto.
In Monetha we are providing a set of solutions that enables direct communication between end-users and online services, eliminating the need to rely on 3rd party data aggregators or centralized platforms. THE ROLE AND THE TEAM
As our Engineering Manager for the Data Enablement Team, you are a player-coach. Your mission is to lead a high-caliber team of Data Engineers in building our Centralized Data Lakehouse from the ground up. We are moving away from fragmented data silos towards a unified, high-quality Data Product architecture.
You will be the driving force behind our technical execution. While you lead the team, you aren't afraid to dive into the architecture or review complex Spark jobs. You ensure that our platform is not just a theoretical concept but a high-performance engine that delivers reliable insights. You will also ensure that we are perfectly integrated into the Zalando ecosystem, maintaining a lean and efficient exchange with their Data Foundation.
WHAT WEโD LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
- Hands-on Leadership: You lead, mentor, and hire a team of Data Engineers. You are a "maker" at heart who leads by example, promoting trunk-based development and high engineering standards.
- Platform Execution: You own the delivery of our Data Roadmap. You ensure the successful rollout of our Medallion architecture on Databricks and AWS.

- The "Maker" Mindset: You have a strong background in Data Engineering and have transitioned into leadership without losing your technical edge. You can still hold your own in a deep-dive technical discussion about Spark optimization or Terraform.
- Courageous Leadership: You have the confidence to challenge the status quo. If a process is inefficient or a technical direction is flawed, you speak up. You prioritize building the right solution over the easy one.
- Experience with Scale: Youโve built or managed modern Lakehouse architectures (Databricks/AWS) and know how to move from PoC to a stable production environment.
- Pragmatic Problem Solver: You prioritize results over perfect slides. You know how to balance long-term architecture with the need for quick wins (like reducing cloud spend).
- Clear Communicator: You can translate technical challenges into actionable steps for the team and provide clear updates to internal stakeholders.
- Zalando Group Context: Experience in navigating quickly a large group ecosystem is a significant plus.

An overview of this role
As an Intermediate Vulnerability Researcher, AST: Vulnerability Research, you'll help improve how GitLab detects and understands software vulnerabilities across our Application Security Testing offerings. Your work will support stronger detection in Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Secret Detection, and Composition Analysis (SCA), while also contributing to future security products. You will research vulnerabilities and exploitation methods, turn findings into practical improvements, and help GitLab teams and customers get more accurate, useful security results. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of research, product quality, and security engineering within GitLab's Engineering organization. You will help shape how detection capabilities evolve over time by creating proof of concepts, evaluating product output, and applying root cause analysis to improve efficacy. This is a strong fit if you're motivated by practical security research and want your work to influence both GitLab's platform and the people who rely on it.
What you'll do
- Carry out vulnerability research and develop proof of concepts that inform GitLab security products and internal security efforts.
- Curate advisory databases for dependency scanning by reviewing, editing, and adding advisories while reducing repetitive manual work through automation.
- Build benchmarks that test the efficacy of scanning and detection products across supported security categories.
- Measure product efficacy over time and use findings to improve the quality and reliability of detection results.
- Assess security product output and perform root cause analysis to identify gaps, false positives, false negatives, and opportunities for improvement.
- Write detailed technical reports that document research findings, methods, and recommendations clearly.
- Respond to internal and external questions related to vulnerabilities, advisories, and detection behavior.
- Collaborate with Security, Development, and Product teams to apply research insights to GitLab's integrated security capabilities.
What you'll bring
- Experience developing or improving vulnerability detection capabilities in web security or a closely related area.
- Knowledge of the vulnerability management process and how research connects to product outcomes.
- Understanding of software composition analysis and software supply chain ecosystems.
- Experience with source code analysis, static application security testing, dynamic application security testing, and benchmarking the efficacy of security tools.
- Knowledge of compilers and compiler design as it relates to code analysis and detection techniques.
- Experience building automated web security testing or analysis tools.
- Ability to contribute in a product development environment and work effectively with cross-functional partners.
- Interest in security and open source, with openness to candidates who bring transferable experience from adjacent research, application security, or detection-focused roles.
About the team
The Vulnerability Research team at GitLab works closely with GitLab Security, Development, and Product to build, tune, and improve the efficacy of the security capabilities integrated into GitLab. We focus on practical research that strengthens detection quality, supports advisory content, and helps translate emerging vulnerability knowledge into product improvements across a distributed, asynchronous environment.
