Senior Risk Engineer

Project description

Our client, a global commodity trading company committed to innovation, is seeking a Senior Risk Engineer to join their engineering team. This role operates at the intersection of commodities risk, market data, and modern software delivery.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, taking full ownership of problems from high-level business requirements through to production deployment, often within the same day.

This is a hands-on engineering position involving coding, architectural design, and close collaboration with risk and trading stakeholders to translate complex domain requirements into robust, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain risk engineering systems across the full stack, with a focus on commodities risk and market data pipelines;
  • Take high-level, loosely defined requirements from trading and risk stakeholders and independently infer the detail needed to deliver correct, production-ready solutions;
  • Contribute to multiple daily releases in a CI/CD environment — writing code that is testable, observable, and safe to ship continuously;
  • Work within and help evolve cloud-native, engineering-led platforms, applying modern infrastructure and deployment practices;
  • Collaborate closely with quants, traders, and risk managers to ensure systems accurately reflect market and risk realities;
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and architectural decisions with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset;
  • Identify and address technical debt without being asked.

Skills

Must have
  • Solid understanding of commodities markets — price risk, mark-to-market, curves, and market data flows;
  • Experience building or maintaining systems that consume and process market data at scale;
  • Proficient Python practitioner — you write clean, idiomatic, well-tested code as a matter of habit;
  • Working knowledge of full-stack development: comfortable across backend services, APIs, and front-end interfaces as needed;
  • Experienced with cloud-based platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and the engineering practices that go with them — containerization, infrastructure-as-code, managed services;
  • Fluent in agentic development workflows — you use AI-assisted tooling (e.g. Copilot, Cursor, or equivalent) as a natural part of your SDLC, not as a novelty; comfortable with AI-generated code review, test generation, and iterative refinement within a fast-release pipeline;
  • Comfortable operating in a high-velocity delivery environment with multiple releases per day;
  • Disciplined about testing, observability, and rollback — you ship fast without being reckless;
  • Able to take ambiguous, high-level requirements and drive them to completion without hand-holding.
Nice to have
  • You are direct, low-ego, and focused on outcomes
  • You push back when something doesn't make sense, and you do it constructively
  • You take ownership — if something is broken or unclear, you fix it or clarify it rather than waiting for someone else to
  • You are easy to work with under pressure
  • You have strong opinions, loosely held

Team & Role Overview

The Open Platform is looking for a QA Lead / Senior QA Engineer with a strong hands-on profile to combine active manual testing with coordination of a small QA function within a product and engineering team. This is not a purely managerial role — the initial focus will be on practical work, deep product immersion, and building solid test coverage for key user scenarios. The team works across multiple products simultaneously, so this role requires strong autonomy, structured thinking, and the ability to maintain quality in a fast-paced environment. Currently, QA operates in a reactive mode, and a key goal is to transition it to a more proactive approach — engaging early, understanding product changes in advance, and reducing risks before release.

We are looking for a QA Lead / Senior QA Engineer with a strong hands-on profile to combine active manual testing with coordination of a small QA function within a product and engineering team. This is not a purely managerial role — the initial focus will be on practical work, deep product immersion, and building solid test coverage for key user scenarios.

What you'll do

  • Perform hands-on manual testing of key product scenarios and release changes as a core part of the role.
  • Analyze PRDs, requirements, and product updates independently, and define testing approaches throughout the development cycle.
  • Engage early in product and engineering processes to contribute beyond final acceptance stages.
  • Create and maintain test cases, checklists, and regression scenarios.
  • Define testing scope before releases, including decisions on manual vs. automated coverage.
  • Coordinate a small QA team: distribute workload, prioritize tasks, and ensure team flexibility.
  • Reduce bus-factor risks through knowledge sharing and transparent coverage across products.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, product, and other stakeholders to improve quality and release predictability.
  • Gradually introduce process improvements, including earlier QA involvement and better testing practices.
  • Maintain a high quality bar without compromising delivery speed.

What we expect from this role

  • In the first 3 months — deep immersion into the products and a strong focus on hands-on manual testing.
  • Gradual improvement of QA processes, workload distribution, and team cross-functionality.
  • Ensuring that all external user touchpoints are properly validated before each release.
  • Developing the QA function without drifting into “management for the sake of management.”

Requirements

  • 4-6+ years of experience in QA, including strong hands-on experience in manual testing of product scenarios.
  • Experience as a QA Lead / Senior QA / QA Coordinator or in a similar role with ownership of a small team while remaining hands-on.
  • Willingness to stay highly involved in practical work (approx. 80% manual testing, 20% leadership/process tasks).
  • Experience organizing QA processes: test planning, task distribution, prioritization, and reducing single points of failure.
  • Ability to work independently with requirements, PRDs, and product changes without constant guidance.
  • Experience writing test cases, checklists, test plans, and maintaining regression coverage.
  • Solid understanding of SDLC and the QA role across different stages of product development.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, and other stakeholders.
  • High level of ownership, attention to detail, structured thinking, and proactivity.

Nice to Have

  • Experience testing web, mobile, SDKs, or developer tools.
  • Understanding of how to balance manual and automated testing and make decisions around test automation.
  • Experience in fintech, crypto, web3, wallets, developer platforms, or B2B2C products.

Benefits & perks

  • Our business is growing at an exponential scale.
  • Non-bureaucratic management that focuses on results.
  • Regular performance reviews to assess your progress.
  • Remote setup with access to our hubs in Dubai, Yerevan, London and Belgrade.
  • Compensation for medical expenses.
  • Provision of necessary equipment.
  • Employees get access to the most advanced AI models via mira.tg.
  • 20 working days of paid vacation annually.
  • 11 days off per year.
  • 14 days of paid sick leave to support your health and recovery when needed.
  • Access to internal conferences, English courses and corporate events.

  • Provide feedback on code reviews.
  • Contribute to the shared codebase.
  • Debug and solve technical and business issues.
  • Participate in non-team activities, such as support rotations, hiring process, RFC discussions, etc.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to other engineers.
  • Investigate, propose and participate in implementation of improvements to our platform.
  • Implement interfaces with performance, accessibility, and API design in mind.
  • Redesign how engineering work ships with autonomous agents as the default execution layer
  • Propose and operationalize agentic workflows end-to-end (spec → plan → execute → verify) to deliver outcomes faster.
  • Build reusable agentic workflows and primitives in the codebase so teams can apply them repeatedly across domains.
  • Use verification loops (tests, checks, evals, guardrails) to ensure results are correct, secure, reliable, and scalable.

What you bring

Must have

  • Strong engineering fundamentals and a track record of shipping production systems that are secure, reliable, and scalable.
  • Practical experience designing or adopting agentic/automation workflows (or comparable systems) and improving them through iteration.
