Machine Learning Engineer (TTS)

At Praktika.ai we are on a mission to deliver efficient and engaging learning experiences for billions of students worldwide by bridging the gap between learning apps and human tutors.

We have done this by creating a fully automated language tutorship experience powered by generative AI Avatars.

After raising $30 million in Series A funding, we are growing and looking for a TTS/SST Machine Learning Engineerto join us! We are a global small team of 40 innovators who are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in language learning and tutoring.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the voice of next-generation AI systems — from real-time conversational pipelines to emotionally expressive speech synthesis. If you're passionate about TTS, real-time AI, and scaling machine learning systems, we’d love to talk to you.

In this fast-paced environment we like independent self-starters who can work well in a team as well as unassisted and who enjoy the working environment of an early-stage startup.

What you'll do with us:

As the TTS/STT Lead, you will be the driving force behind our voice AI systems. You’ll work closely with product and educational teams to deeply understand user needs and pain points, then take full ownership of crafting robust solutions end-to-end.

Designing and optimising TTS pipelines for emotional expression, low latency, and code-switching.
Tailoring STT systems for educational scenarios (e.g., preserving learner errors).
Leading the full ML lifecycle: requirements, dataset curation (outsourcing labeling as needed), model training and fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.
Benchmarking third-party TTS/STT solutions and integrating the best options into our infrastructure.
Running A/B tests and real-world evaluations in our production testing framework.
Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality, scalable voice experiences.
Performing inference optimization and load testing in our current ML deployment stack.
Diving deep into ML architectures to continuously push model quality and performance.

What we’re Looking For from you:

Strong background in machine learning, NLP, speech/audio processing, and transformer architectures.
Hands-on experience with TTS and STT technologies.
Proven ownership of end-to-end ML product features, including both technical and product aspects.
Proficiency in Python, with solid engineering fundamentals and experience with backend tech (async, Docker, databases, testing).
Experience in real-time AI or latency-sensitive system

We are looking for a talented Sales Manager to join our team remotely.

Position is open to Europe-based candidates only.

Responsibilities:

Conducting client search and acquisition, drafting commercial proposals
Negotiating with new clients and partners
Maintaining ongoing communication with clients (calls | emails | chat)
Collaborating with current partners and actively participating in establishing relationships with new partners

Key competencies:

2+ years of experience in the role of Sales Manager
Experience with fintech products is required
Experience with crypto products is a plus
Understanding and experience working with clients from high-risk industries
Knowledge of English at Upper Intermediate level or above
Negotiation skills and ability to deliver results
Ability to develop and implement client acquisition strategies

Healthforce is a dynamic & purposeful start-up company seeking to transform healthcare in Africa, solving systemic problems in the healthcare system through technology and collaboration. With global investors and local partners, we’re set to do big things in healthcare in SA and on the continent!

Our first solution to market has been a digital product that enables team-based primary healthcare. Nurses use the system to manage central patient records, and to instantly connect by video call to a team of doctors, should their patient need a prescription or advice. This means nurses can act as the entry point to the healthcare system, cost of care can be reduced and access to doctors is improved.

Healthforce has been rolled out to 450 clinic rooms across South Africa so far, including all DisChem clinics. Over 1 million nurse consultations and 115,000 telemedicine doctor consultations have been captured on the system. We are on a pathway to rapidly scale this offering in South Africa and internationally.

The second product Healthforce is delivering, is a direct to consumer app that allows a person to speak to a nurse, doctor or mental health professional directly from their phone. Information is gathered through chat, voice and video and diagnosis or counselling is provided. Our need is to grow our clinical team that provides the healthcare services to patients.

The role:

Healthforce is a lean, low ego, highly skilled team of multidisciplinary experts, including healthcare, product, engineering, analytics, organisational development and training. We are patient-led - meaning that we always start with what our customers need and work as a team to deliver from there. Our team uses modern tools and practices, and customer-centric ways of working.

The Doctor Clinician will deliver healthcare services to patients that require care on our direct-to-consumer healthcare application. Our clinicians should assist patients with everyday clinical concerns. Through clinical assessments, diagnosis and counselling we identify those that may require more sophisticated or advanced interventions and clinicians can then refer appropriately.

Working together in a team with Nurses, Clinical Associates and Mental Health Professionals, the Doctor Clinician will ensure high quality care delivered in the most cost -effective means to enable lower cost health care accessible to more.

What you will be doing:‍

Providing high quality advice to individuals:

Answering questions around medical conditions, medications or whether an individual needs more urgent care
Explaining diagnosis or ongoing care to patients who may have received diagnostic results or a new diagnosis.
Assist patients with everyday clinical concerns by taking a history, reviewing photos and result a patient may have, and doing a virtual examination with the patient.

Providing high quality virtual care to individuals:

Perform clinical assessments virtually with limiter visualisation
Diagnose conditions and prescribe medications that may be necessary
Identify those who may need urgent; face to face or chronic care

Working on our bespoke digital platform to collaborate with colleagues in a multi-disciplinary team:

Delivering clinical results and meeting costs control goals.
Refer for appropriate clinical consultations.
Discuss and use the technology platform to get the individual assistance from either a Nurse, Clinical Associate or Mental Health Professional, should it be necessary

Importantly, you need to be socially minded and should want to apply your creativity and skills to reimagining the way out-of-hospital healthcare can be delivered to all South Africans when enabled by technology.

Backend Engineer (Elixir)

We are looking for someone with a strong engineering background who enjoys building high-quality products used by millions. Develop, maintain and operate HTTP APIs and web apps, mainly built with Elixir
Manage, extend and improve our infrastructure (Kubernetes, AWS)
Collaborate with tech teams across Wooga on using our services and building new feature
Ensure stability and resilience of our services
Take part in our team on-call rotation every few weeks (after an extensive onboarding period)

About you

You have several years of experience as a backend engineer (game industry experience is a plus but not necessary)
You are a team player and value collaboration
You know your way around complex systems and know how to work with big codebases.
Elixir proficiency is essential, though professional experience is not mandatory. What we prioritize is your enthusiasm and eagerness to work with Elixir.

Great if you know:

Postgres, Redis, DynamoDB, Apache Kafka and ElasticSearch
Hands-on experience using Kubernetes, Helm or Terraform
