A company that functions at unparalleled levels of effectiveness and efficiency. A company that creates value for shareowners at an extraordinary rate. And a company that does so while adhering to high ethical standards. To achieve this objective, we execute the following strategy: We acquire a digital business with untapped potential and make it as successful as we can by leveraging our platform—which comprises our expertise, technologies, data, brand, talents, and company culture. Then, we invest the proceeds into making our platform more powerful, and into acquiring new businesses. Thus, our strategy sees us combine an investor’s attention to capital allocation with the hands-on approach of an operator. For a talented, driven, and collaborative individual, working at Bending Spoons is an opportunity to learn, make an impact, and progress their career at an exceptionally high rate. That’s our promise to such a candidate.

At HubSpot, we’re on a mission to help millions of small and medium-sized businesses grow through our suite of world-class products. Our tools are designed to support businesses at every stage of growth, ensuring they can scale effectively.
The Academy Product Group’s mission is to enable Sales, Marketing, and Services professionals to build confidence in their expertise through education, and trust within the HubSpot ecosystem through credentials. HubSpot Academy has thousands of weekly active users with a wide variety of backgrounds, including free users who sign up just to learn from HubSpot Academy, new employees at companies using HubSpot for the first time, and many of our most experienced customers and partners. They all come to Academy to learn and improve their skills in any of HubSpot’s core languages. Our goal is to help those users find the education they're looking for, build confidence in HubSpot and inbound, introduce them to the power of HubSpot software, help them maximize the value they get from HubSpot, and help them showcase their expertise to the world.
In the next year, we’re looking at deepening the Academy experience with simulated learning, finding more places to take advantage of Academy’s deep library of content in HubSpot’s AI offerings, and to sharpen our tools for driving activation of HubSpot tools by sending our users back into the product to use the skills they’ve just learned.
Engineering leaders play to their strengths, but are aligned to HubSpot’s mission and show the leadership qualities that we’ve found to be most effective. These include building trust and empathy within their teams, caring deeply about our customers and business needs, and fostering a team culture that encourages autonomy and psychological safety.
In this role, we’re looking for a candidate who:
- Believes in our guiding principles and that People and Product over Process is the way to inspire teams to build remarkable products
- Can use their technical expertise to build a strong engineering culture based on HubSpot engineering principles, instilling a growth mindset, sharing both wins and mistakes to help accelerate learning
- Has experience (and/or strong interest) working in the education, LMS, or Marketplace domains
- Has worked on search, recommendation, and/or generative AI spaces and can bring technical and product expertise in those domains to bear
- Has a bias for action, and isn't afraid to make difficult decisions to unblock teams, understanding that shipping and iterating gives teams the best chance to succeed in the long run
A Senior Engineering Manager is a product and technology leader at HubSpot, and fundamentally decides how their group of teams run and are responsible for the success of their teams.
- Your group’s Product and Design leaders are your first team, working on solving challenging customer problems together. In alignment with the HubSpot product strategy, you’ll set the direction and bring clarity for the 6-7 small teams in your group.
- You’ll bring a strong technical perspective in conjunction with an understanding of our customers and product strategy to your group's leadership team.
- You’ll partner with peers across the organization to advance our software development and delivery infrastructure. Product Platform operates at the highest scales within HubSpot, often stretching the capabilities of our internal platform and tools.
- You’ll hold a high performance bar for your team, and ask questions to understand, before jumping to conclusions. You’ll help your reports grow the engineers underneath them, and mentor their reports to grow in their own roles.
- You’ll contribute to our diversity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives to ensure inclusion and equity are embedded into everything we do.
- You’ll effectively communicate our mission and culture to candidates. You’re an active participant in attracting and recruiting talent to the team.
We’re an organization proud of how we treat our employees, and have the awards to show for it. We are building a company future generations can be proud of. A company where everyone is welcome. A company where you can be yourself.
Important note: Engineering leaders at HubSpot spend their first ~4 months embedding as a software engineer on the teams that they will be responsible for and also for 1-2 weeks re-embedding each year. During this time, they will be actively coding and staying hands on technically is a key expectation for the role. There will be a 'take at home' coding assessment as part of the interview process.
