THE ROLE AND THE TEAM

Lounge by Zalando is an online shopping club for fashion and lifestyle products, serving millions of members across 20+ European markets. At the core of our high-growth strategy is pricing and assortment optimization. The Pricing Algorithms team is responsible for the Demand-based Pricing algorithm at Lounge.

As the Applied Science Manager, you will enable talented scientists and engineers to deliver effective and scientifically-sound solutions to one of our most impactful business problems. Developing a world-class pricing algorithm is a great opportunity to directly contribute to a key pillar of Lounge’s future success: machine learning, econometrics, and operations research drive our efforts to optimize discounts on ca. 5 billion EUR or goods each year.

  • 2+ years of experience in people and project leadership within ambiguous environments. You are familiar with agile or project management methodologies tailored to the unpredictable nature of R&D.
  • Proven track record in developing solutions from initial idea to production.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to bring clarity and structure to ambiguous technical problems.
  • Strong experience with Python in applied context. A solid understanding of software engineering tools and best practices to help smoothly translate scientific research into production-ready systems.

Requirements

  • Experience: 6+ years in Product Management, Engineering Leadership, or as a Technical Founder, ideally in a role where you owned the product vision.
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent “self-taught” professional mastery. You must understand system design and modern tech stack.
  • Proven success in a high-growth environment driving products from 0 to 1 or scaling from 1 to 100. Experience managing or mentoring teams, with the ability to influence stakeholders across different departments.
  • Bonus Points: Prior experience collaborating with Data Science, Data Engineering and Data Analytics teams to leverage complex data models and robust pipelines for product-led growth.

THE ROLE & THE TEAM

As a (Senior) Risk Manager at Zalando Payments (“ZPS”), you will steer the identification & evaluation of risks/ opportunities as part of our business/regulatory risk assessment process.   • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Business Continuity Management and Crisis Management framework across all operations

What you need to be successful

Background
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Resilience, BCM, Business Administration, Risk Management, or other relevant areas in Business Continuity Management / Crisis Management / Operational Resilience
  • 6+ years of professional experience (may include ICT Risk and Third Party Risk Management) gained in banking / financial services or consulting
Skills
  • Good knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., MaRisk, BAIT, DORA) and common industry standards (e.g., ISO 22301)
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, creativity, critical thinking, as well as the ability to identify problems and propose practical solutions

Your Mission & Who We Are Looking For:

  • Proven track record in production ML. You have 5+ years in Data Science with a history of deployed models that moved real business metrics, not just research that stayed in notebooks. At adjoe, you'll be building models that predict LTV, conversion, and user behavior across 770 million users, directly impacting advertiser ROAS and publisher revenue.
  • Deep learning is your primary tool. You have strong hands-on experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow and have deployed deep learning models in production environments handling 1M+ daily predictions. You know the difference between a model that works in evaluation and one that holds up under real traffic.
  • Full ML lifecycle ownership. You own the problem end-to-end from extracting insights out of terabytes of behavioral data using Trino, Spark, or AWS Athena, through model development and A/B validation, to production deployment. Experience with Airflow or model hosting is a strong plus.
  • Fluent in both Python and data at scale. You work comfortably with the core DS stack (pandas/polars, numpy, scikit-learn, LightGBM, CatBoost, XGBoost) and have advanced SQL skills for drilling into large distributed datasets.
  • Bridges ML and product. You can translate product requirements into ML logic and explain model behavior and impact to non-technical stakeholders without losing the technical depth underneath. AdTech experience is a strong plus.

As a Senior Principal Applied Scientist, you will drive the scientific vision and execution for the Bidding and Allocation engines within Zalando Marketing Services (ZMS).

Every time a customer interacts with Zalando, our ad tech system must make high-stakes decisions in real-time. We are looking for an experienced AI/ML Engineer to join our Central Data Platform team and take ownership of the machine learning and GenAI infrastructure that powers advanced analytics and AI use cases across the organisation. Your profile
