AI Engineer (m/f/d)
AI Engineer (m/f/d) | Jobs at BIT Capital GmbH Skip to main content English English Back to all jobs AI Engineer (m/f/d) Berlin HQ Full-time Permanent employee Apply for this job
Your Role & How we work
We are hiring an AI Engineer (m/f/d) to holistically develop BIT Capital's LLM and agentic Artifical Intelligence capabilities: from the data science that turns data into investment signals, to the engineering that powers our financial intelligence agents. A strong initial focus is the build-out of “Aion” - our agentic research platform - that has first-class access to our data, models, and tools and is already in mainstream production, used by the investment team every day. Beyond, your mandate covers everything LLM- and agent-related across BIT, from research products for the investment team to internal tools in Sales, Marketing, Operations, and client-facing experiences. You work autonomously, from first scoping to shipping, and you self-select the use cases and projects where you can have the most impact. You report to our Carlos Bielsa (Chief AI Officer & Managing Partner) and work side by side with Vlad Gheorghe, our second AI Engineer, acting as our internal expert as the frontier of AI moves. Our stack is Python, SQL, AWS, and Databricks, with models and agentic frameworks from the leading AI labs (Anthropic Managed Agents, Codex). Your priorities in this role will thus include:
- Investment signal pipelines. Design and ship LLM-based extraction pipelines (prompts, retrieval, model selection, evaluations) that turn text and data into investment scores, alerts, signals, and insights reliable enough to drive decisions.
- Agentic systems behind “Aion”. Build and evolve the agentic systems that power Aion, along with the research skills and Python sidecars that agents execute.
- Data and tool integrations. Build the integrations that give agents performant, safe access to BIT's data and capabilities.
- Evaluations and model selection. Build automated and human-in-the-loop evaluations, regression tests, and monitoring that track accuracy, hallucination rates, latency, cost, and model uncertainty. Benchmark and select the right model per task, including open-source options.
- LLMOps at scale. Establish the LLMOps practices that keep these systems reliable at scale: versioning of prompts, configs, and models; CI/CD; error handling; fallbacks; and cost control.
- Frontier into production. Stay at the frontier of LLM and agentic AI techniques and bring new ideas into production rather than leaving them as experiments.
The experience you bring
You have a solid data science and engineering background, with at least 2 years building software, data systems, or ML in production. You adopt the mindset of a product-minded software engineer. You have shipped your own apps and agents and can point us to a public project, repo, or product. You are fluent with the current LLM and agentic frontier, with hands-on experience using leading agentic systems (Claude Code, Anthropic Managed Agents, Codex, open-source agentic loops). You have strong Python and SQL skills with clean engineering practices, plus cloud infrastructure experience (AWS strongly preferred). You bring production discipline for probabilistic systems: evaluations, regression tests, monitoring, reproducibility, and cost awareness. A scientific approach to turning LLMs into signals and scores (ground-truth datasets, train/test/iterate) is a plus; a data science or ML background helps but is not required. You have a genuine interest in investing, or at minimum a strong drive to learn about our domain quickly and deeply, paired with sharp general intelligence and clear systems thinking.
2 reasons why you should not apply
- You mainly use AI tools for your own productivity and have not yet taken systems into production. This role is about building and shipping AI that the whole firm relies on, so prior production experience matters here.
- You are looking for a finished, stable AI stack to operate and maintain. Our systems evolve quickly as the frontier moves, so you will spend much of your time building and reshaping them rather than keeping a fixed setup running.
Your mindset
- You're an "AI Native": you use agentic AI as core infrastructure in how you work, not as a novelty.
- You're a "Builder": you ship working systems and improve them continuously rather than leaving ideas as experiments.
- You blend data science rigor with engineering pragmatism, with care for correctness, reliability, and cost.
- You're passionate about AI, emerging technology, and investing, and you pair technical depth with strong product judgment.
- You manage for outcomes, own problems end-to-end, and communicate clearly on progress, tradeoffs, and risk.
What we offer
- Work at the frontier of applied AI in asset management, with petabytes of data and the most cutting-edge tools.
- Real technical direction and ownership from day one, as the internal expert while the frontier moves.
- Contribute to a unique success story in European asset management, surrounded by the most knowledgeable experts in the industry.
- A motivated, highly international team (15 nationalities) that enjoys getting together in person in Berlin and strongly supports each other.
- Flat hierarchies and direct interaction with our management team.
- Competitive compensation, relocation, and visa support if needed.

For individuals who demonstrate exceptional capability, we may offer compensation that extends beyond the usual ranges to reflect their higher expected impact. If you're offered a permanent contract, you'll also be able receive some of your pay in company equity at a discounted price, thus participating in the value creation we achieve together. If relocating to Italy, you may enjoy a 50% tax cut.
- All. These. Benefits. Flexible hours, remote working, unlimited backing for learning and training, top-of-the-market health insurance, a rich relocation package, generous parental support, and a yearly retreat to a stunning location. If you require any reasonable accommodation to apply for this position, please contact us on recruitment@playground-games.com
What You'll Do:
- Ship production agentic systems- Design and build agents and agentic workflows that solve a defined problem end to end. You own prompts, tools, retrieval, guardrails, observability, cost and latency budgets, and rollout.
- Automate SME workflows- Identify high-leverage operational toil (review pipelines, content QA, labeling and ops loops, support triage, internal copilots) and partner with the SMEs running those workflows to define success criteria, validate outputs, and replace meaningful chunks of that work with AI systems they trust. SMEs are co-owners of quality from the start of the project.
- Own the evaluation loop and the golden datasets that anchor it- Build offline evals, LLM-as-judge with calibration, regression suites, and online metrics. Maintain versioned, decontaminated golden datasets covering intents, difficulty, edge cases, and adversarial inputs, and continuously enrich them with real production failures and SME-validated labels. The measurement plan is what decides whether a feature ships.
- Make AI features safe- Treat what you deliver as a regulated product. Design for relevant compliance frameworks (e.g., COPPA, FERPA) from day one, run safety and bias evals before launch and continuously after, and build the human-in-the-loop and content-filtering controls AI features need before they reach end users.
- Hand off what you ship- Production features leave your hands with documentation, runbooks, an eval harness, and dashboards. An embed is not complete until the receiving team has shipped a change to the system without you in the room. Typical embed length is 4 to 12 weeks.
- Make AI features easier for the rest of engineering to build- Internal libraries, patterns, and playbooks so other teams can ship AI features without your direct involvement.
What You Need:
- 7+ years professional experience as an Engineer with at least 1+ years of hands-on experience building agentic systems on at least one modern stack (LangGraph, the Anthropic SDK / Claude Agent SDK, OpenAI Agents SDK, Pydantic-AI, Mastra, LlamaIndex, CrewAI, or a homegrown stack). We care that you have built and operated agentic systems in production, not which framework.
- Strong Python familiarity plus one typed language for production services (TypeScript, Go, or similar). Cloud experience (AWS or GCP) and containerized deployment.
- Senior or staff-level software engineering foundation with several years of production environment experience and a track record of leading systems to launch.
- Multiple shipped LLM-powered features in a production environment, with concrete stories about what broke, how you fixed it, and what you would do differently.
- Practical knowledge of common agentic patterns: ReAct, tool use with structured schemas, prompt chaining, routing, orchestrator-workers, evaluator-optimizer / reflection, and human-in-the-loop. You can decide when a deterministic workflow is the right answer instead of an autonomous agent.
- Hands-on experience in a production environment with retrieval: chunking, embeddings, hybrid search, re-ranking, metadata filtering, and the failure modes of each. Working knowledge of grounding techniques that anchor generated answers in retrieved evidence (citation and quote extraction, faithfulness and refusal evals, post-hoc consistency checks).
- Strong prompt-engineering practice: zero-shot, few-shot, and many-shot patterns; example selection and ordering; in-context learning and chain-of-thought.
- Comfort with structured output and validation in production (provider-native structured outputs, Instructor, Pydantic-AI, Outlines, or a comparable approach).
- Disciplined evaluation practice. You do not rely on subjective review to decide whether a system is ready.
- Strong written and verbal communication. You can explain an architectural trade-off to an executive and to a junior engineer in the same week.
- You are comfortable using AI coding tools heavily in your implementation workflow while you own problem framing, design choices, and verification. We measure your output by working systems delivered, not lines of code written.
Nice to Have:
- Advanced retrieval experience: GraphRAG, agentic retrieval, evaluation-driven retrieval tuning, and hybrid retrieval at scale.
- Direct or transferable experience with safety, privacy, and policy constraints in user-facing AI. K-12 or other regulated-domain experience is a strong plus.
- Experience with prompt-optimization frameworks (DSPy, TEXTGRAD, AdalFlow) where they paid off in production.
- A public repo, package, gist, or technical write-up of meaningful AI work, or a representative project you can describe in detail under your confidentiality constraints.
- Open-source contributions to AI tooling (frameworks, agents, evals, MCP servers).
*A note on our interview process
One of our interview rounds is an AI-assisted coding session. Bring your own setup and solve a realistic problem live with AI in the loop. We are looking at how you collaborate with AI tools: how you prompt, validate output, catch bad suggestions, decide when to override, and produce code that meets production standards. It is not a cleanroom algorithm round.

Senior Data Engineer (f/m/d) - Job Description
Location: Hamburg
Employment Type: Full time
Department: adjoe
adjoe builds the technologies behind mobile apps growth and monetization. With our core product Playtime Arcade, we've become the global leader in rewarded advertising, an ad unit built on a simple premise: users earn real in-app rewards for engaging with new apps. The result is one of the most effective value exchanges in adtech, connecting advertisers and publishers with over 770 million users annually.
Architecting Intelligence to Optimize 200M+ Daily Decisions
As the intelligence core of our engineering organization, our Data Science team doesn't just deploy models, we engineer the fundamental decision engine that powers our platform. At a scale of 770 million users and 100,000+ predictions per second, we are solving a multi-objective optimization problem that balances user incentives, advertiser ROI, and long-term platform health in real time.
Our architecture is built on a 1PB+ behavioral data lake, providing the high-fidelity input necessary to train deep learning models that predict individual user engagement with precision. We aren't just optimizing clicks, we are dynamically calculating optimal reward structures to sustain a global value exchange.
Engineered for performance, our stack leverages Tensorflow and PyTorch for model training, NVIDIA Triton to achieve sub-100ms inference. We own the full ML lifecycle from high-level research and feature engineering to deployment and A/B experimentation. Here, you will find the autonomy, the data depth, and the massive scale required to solve the most complex optimization challenges in the adtech ecosystem.
The data infrastructure behind this runs at real scale: 2TB ingested in real time every day, 100+ Airflow jobs and data pipelines, and ML models handling p99 latency of 100ms across 100,000+ predictions per second. As a Data Engineer on this team – you'll be building and maintaining the infrastructure that makes them possible: the Feature Store, the data pipelines, the data quality systems, and the data architecture that data scientists depend on to move fast.
Your Mission & Who We Are Looking For:
- Data engineering at ML scale. You have 5+ years in data engineering on a modern stack, with proven experience handling systems that process several TB of data per day and thousands of events per second.
- Flink is your default for real-time. You have hands-on experience with Apache Flink for stateful stream processing and real-time feature computation. You'll translate Data Science requirements into high-performance streams, enable Data Scientists to contribute new features and implement features yourself when needed.
- Pipeline bottlenecks don't survive long around you. You know how to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in complex ETL jobs, whether handling high-volume batch processing or real-time streaming systems like Kafka. At adjoe, data velocity is critical: slow pipelines directly impact model freshness and prediction quality at sub-100ms inference.
- You think in layers, not tables. You move beyond raw data to design robust, multi-layered data architectures using dbt, and can reason confidently about storage formats, Data Lakehouse models, and what belongs where in a 1PB+ data lake. Familiarity with Medallion Architecture is a strong plus.
- The bridge between Data Science and Backend. You've worked closely with Data Scientists on online ML systems with low latency requirements, and understand what it takes to make experimental research production-ready. Strong Java required; Go or Python a plus.
- Owns quality, not just delivery. You implement data validation, monitoring, and governance processes in production, because in a system where model inputs directly drive advertiser ROI, data integrity isn't optional. Experience with Airflow, Kubeflow, AWS, Terraform, and Kubernetes is a strong plus.
🌎 We welcome applications from talent worldwide and provide relocation support to Hamburg, Germany for those ready to join our team.
What’s in It for You?
At adjoe, you’re not here to just close JIRA tickets, you’re helping build the infrastructure behind one of the most impactful platforms in adtech. The systems you work on will reach hundreds of millions of users and power billions of decisions every day.
- Go Big. Own projects with impact on 770M users and push adtech boundaries.
- Move Fast. Ship solutions multiple times a day, learn from results, and keep momentum.
- Be Direct. Solve problems openly and collaborate across teams.
- Thrive Together. Grow with a diverse, global team of people from over 40 different countries that learn from each other.
- Have Fun. Celebrate wins, enjoy daily victories, and bring your energy.
We welcome applications from people who will contribute to the diversity of our company.
